1988-2003:
During the past 15 years, the work
of the firm has been broad-based, including large public projects, and a diversity
of commercial and industrial projects.
This work includes hotels, retail facilities, auto dealerships, warehouse
and industrial plant facilities, office buildings, vehicle service facilities,
galleries, dental and medical facilities, resort condominiums, apartments,
public facilities, and churches as-well-as single family residences.
Color Our most significant recent work is the award winning William Mull Building,
the Administrative and Engineering Facility for MSD of Buncombe County. The
project received both a Smart Growth Award and a Griffin Award for "Recognition
of Outstanding Contributions to Historic Preservation". The project
included not only this imaginative adaptation of an historic brick and
riveted steel, power plant structure into the MSD headquarters. We designed
a campus of other structures for vehicle maintenance, storage, and other needs
as well.
Site planning is integral to the design of most of our projects. Site planning
for many projects includes the phased construction of several buildings. We
provide master site planning services when a campus of buildings is anticipated
over time.
At the residential scale our attention turns increasingly to the detailed
expression of structure as is found in arts and crafts structures on the early
20th century, and contemporary or organic school variations of the same. We
like to combine these elements with expansive, upscale interiors, and a studied
design for fenestration that provides exterior harmony as well as views and
day lighting.
